My 1990 Ford Ranger pickup has been running a bit warm lately.
The temp guage usually stays almost all the way to the left, but now
it's up about a quarter.
The oil is new, all the fluids are at correct levels, and the
antifreeze is at 40 below, but it is rather old, so I'm going to get
the radiator flushed and fresh coolent put in.
Sometimes lately, the "Check Engine" light will go on for a little
while.
Today I put in a bottle of Techtron in the gas tank to clean things
out.
It sounds as if your thermostat has died in the closed position or very near closed. It is also possible you have a bad waterpump. My suggestion would be to drive until it gets warm, open the hood, and CAREFULLY observe and inspect the engine while it is running. Next, feel both the upper and lower radiator hoses to see if they are at the appropriate temp. If one of the hoses is cold or warm instead of hot replace the thermostat.
