Sensor XL for me. I don't like the Mach 3, the head swivels way too much and just doesn't feel right. My wife loves the MAch 3 though. She says it works way better than any of the ladies razors for her legs.

Gillette twin blade disposable, with mug and brush shaving cream. The shaving soap is the key, none of that canned crap for me. Use a high lanolin soap, I use the stuff from Crabtree and Evelyn.

I use Gillete Mach 3 Turbo with shave gel. Got a $40 dollar electric one christmas and didn't use it more than a week..tore up my neck. So far the best shave gel i have found was this new expensive $5 gillete multi-glid shave gel, great for reduceing irritation and tiny cuts but at the same time a pain to clean up..

I have experimented with several types of razors over the past 30y. In general I would say blades give a closer shave than electric. Electric has the advantage of being usable anywhere and not needing soap and water.

I "inherited" several old style double, single and "injector" type razors from an uncle. I grew up with TracII and have used Sensor and the new Mach series including the electric MachIII(how weird, an electric blade razor). I have never tried a straigt razor. I have used Remington microscreen, Braun microscreen, Norelco and a Sears rotary(like Norelco).

In my opinion, the best shave I get is from the TracII, Sensor and MachIII. They are close enough that I can't be sure there is a difference. Comfort and no nicks are very good with Sensor and MachIII. Trac II is almost nick free, but once in awhile... Since the shave is so similar, I would probably stick with Trac II or Sensor due to cost of replacement blades.

The old double edge and single edge razors do OK but seem to be rougher and are more nick prone. The only draw back to blades is that you need water and soap. For the best shave use hot water and soap(shaving in the shower is good). Lately I have to stroke 4 directions to get a good shave, up, down, left right. I guess it's like my dad told me long ago, we have tough beards. Even my barber has to bring out the industrial hedge trimmers when he cuts my hair, really. None of those buzzy clippers for me, yah gotta use the one that sounds like a lawn mower.

With electric, you need to use them for about a month before they stop irritating the skin. I get the best shave out of my 15 year old Remington microscreen, I have soldered new batteries in to it and the Braun and Norelco since I like them enough, plus I am cheap. The Norelco came close but there was a noticable difference, too bad some freaking thief took that one. The Braun comes in 3rd but is OK. Strangely Norelco and, I think Remington have come out with razors that dispense cream and work in water. Of course some of the new Norelcos cost as much as a beater car. BTW, electrics can nick too, if the screen is worn out a bit.

I use electric in the car and when on the road or when I want to shave while reading or watching tv. I use the blades at home or when I want a close shave.

If I was starting a kid off, I would probably start them with TracII or Sensor since they are fool proof. My oldest should be getting to this point in the next year or so.

i like the mach 3 but the quadra blade ones i don't seem to get as close. Only thing is i can dull a mach 3 blade after shaving 3 times. The lil 2 blades last maye 1 or 2, then it gets dull and pulls.

I used an electric razor for over a year until discovered and tried the Mach 3. It is by far the best thing I have found. It gives you a close shave and my blades last a pretty long time. I use it with shaving gel, much better than the cream and less messy. After just one use of the mach 3 I haven't touched the electric since, not as close a shave and takes longer I think, to get it short enough. Even when the mach 3 blades started getting dull, they pulled less on the hair than the electric anyday.

Has anybody seen those commercials for Mach 3 (??) battery operated that vibrates the blades or something. I can't imagine, but wondered if anybody has tried one.

it doesn't vibrate the blades, it sends an electrical impulse that raises the hairs on your face...

I use that Shick with 4 blades and no shaving cream/gel.

To me though, if I want a real shave I use a disposable razor and Barbersol.

The Mach III Does vibrate the blades. I have one and it has a tiny electric motor that causes it to buzz, kind of like a silent cell phone. The handle vibrates so the shaft that holds the blades causes the blade to vibrate too, I guess.

Feels a little wierd. I don't know if it does better than the regular Mach III, I have both and the shave feels the sames to me when I am done. While you are shaving, the electric one kind of makes your face tingle a little, especially around the lips. But like I said, don't know if it really does anything to improve the shave.

I think Schick is coming out with something similar. I think the shave gadget wars are escalating again.

Electric for me, I can't stand shaving with a blade, I'm a bleeder. Used a Remington electric for years, but hated it. My dad borrowed it once and said, "This thing is awfull, it just chews around and rips out chunks!" He let me try his Norelco and I was hooked, I've used them ever since. I don't really care about getting the closest shave in the world, but I like to get up and run the razor over my face and I'm done in less than a minute. -TD

Mind you, I am only 16, so my beard isnt too thick yet, but I have a Remmington TI electric, and it gets really close, but I dont know how well it will do on a full-thickness beard.
