Well I guess I kind of believe the Mac guy because he showed me a Snap On 6100 that had been updated to a 6500 and would sell it to me for 100 dollars. So unless he was just messing with my mind I do not know. But we do have a 3/4 snap on impact that is complete junk and we sent it in when it was new becuase a 1/2 drive has more power then it.
Thanks everyone for responding it is always nice to get some none biased opinions.
I am in a situation were I can get rid of my CP impact wrench and get some decent money for it. I am looking at either a Snap On IMH 6500 or a new Mac (its like a IR Titanium). And the Mac guy said the Snap On's are junk. So I was wondering if anyone else has had expericence with the Snap On or Mac. I am leaning towards the Mac after what the salesman said and the fact the snap on is 370 dollars and the Mac is 280 dollars. I know that I can get the Mac cheaper by going online and getting an IR equlivent but then I have a pain if it does break down. Were if I buy the Mac chances are he can fix it on the spot and if it does have to go in I get a loaner. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i over the last 42 years used them both i perfer the mac over snapon as it is a duel hammer one and is really a ir gun at a fraction of snapons cost. take them both and free run them on the same air line then make up your own mind, i think the sound of the mac gun will tell you the story
I just got an IR 2131Qt and I love it. Used it to tear apart the front end on my '79 while putting in a bushing kit, there wasn't a rusty nut there that it didn't loosen. Can't imagine how I lived without it!

Same here. I've got an IR2135Ti and can't believe what a fool I was for struggling all those years without an impact wrench. Now the trick is figuring out how to use it in confined areas. Brake caliper bolts, for example, can be a bear.

You can buy a small 3/8 butterfly impact wrench, some people seem to like those for various things because they fit into tight spaces better because they are narrower, especially when doing transmission work. The 3/8 regular impact from Snap-On is 6.5 inches overall length so that might be better suited in a wheel well.
I use my 6500 snap on everyday, Tearing Mack motors apart. Have had no problems with it at all.I also oil it everyday . I also have a old IR 3/4 drive that is pretty hard to beat. Most people don't need a real powerful impact , because they
over tighten bolts and nuts, of course thats were a torque wrench should be used.
I would like to thank everyone for there help. I decided on a Mac AW5500 I think that is the number. It is very light, small, and the controls are excellent, and I think it puts out like 700 ftlbs. I was using it on a D6H Cat dozer today tightening up the trunions on the dozer assembly and my old CP I would tighten down a big bolt andI could easily get 3/4 of a turn with 6 foot cheater on a ratchet the Mac maybe a 1/4 of turn if that. It does not sound like alot but it is. So I am impressed we will see how well it holds up. Thanks again for all the help.
