Impact Wrenchs

I am in a situation were I can get rid of my CP impact wrench and get some decent money for it. I am looking at either a Snap On IMH 6500 or a new Mac (its like a IR Titanium). And the Mac guy said the Snap On's are junk. So I was wondering if anyone else has had expericence with the Snap On or Mac. I am leaning towards the Mac after what the salesman said and the fact the snap on is 370 dollars and the Mac is 280 dollars. I know that I can get the Mac cheaper by going online and getting an IR equlivent but then I have a pain if it does break down. Were if I buy the Mac chances are he can fix it on the spot and if it does have to go in I get a loaner. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I havent havent used a mac or snap on but I would go with makita.

As far as 1/2" impacts go, hands down best on the market are the IR 2131, and 2131 ti. We beat the crap out of them offshore, no water filters or regulators ect. and get about a year to a year and a half out of them. The rest snapon mac bluepoint and cp might last six months if were lucky.

I've used a Snapon IM5100 for about umm 8 years now. It would be the older version of the IM6500. Other than a new throttle valve and socket rings I've never had a problem with it. I'm a tech at a Ford dealer so it gets used lots. Our air system always has water in it and we've got the pressure cranked up to 175 psi.
The IR's that are in our shop have been good too but I really dislike the way they feel. I guess it's just what you get used to.

lol, my first thought was electric.

I would also go with IR 2131 - awesome torque.

Agreed! I've got an older IM5100 too, nice balance and tons of torque!

I work at a truck fleet shop we abuse the heck out of impact wrenches i use the ir 2131ti its a great gun lots of torque but it jamed up on me at about a years time was lucky still under warranty from matco dealer took a week to get it fixed try sears if you are interested in IR they were cheaper and gave a longer warranty then my matco dealer

I think your off on the model # it should be a 2135ti, it has 700 ft lbs reverse torque with 1000 ft/lbs NBT (nut busting torque)
have used both the 2131 and 2135 ti. you can't go wrong with either one.

yeah your right it is 2135ti.

We have used every impact under the sun, borken a many, and thrown a many over the handrail, and the ir 2131 and 2135ti are the only models that will break loose waukesha main bearing nuts without having to use a 1/2" airline. Our tools sit in aluminum gang boxes and ride around on the back of crew boats, sometimes for days before getting to the platform or shorebase. Alot of salt air in other words. They take a beating and like I said we usually get a year to a year and a half out of them. Something else we use alot of times to get the vanes un stuck when they get an ingestion of salt water is Aerokroll or Silikroll from Kano labratories. Hands down the best penetrating oil made. I use the IR 2135 Ti and I am very happy with it. I also have MAC impact, but I'm not sure of the model #. The IR is definately THE gun. The 2131 is also dang good as well. At 175 PSI, Unless it is a really big bolt, the 2135 either loosens it, or breaks it. One way or another, the nut/bolt with be removed.

cp is a good brand name.but repair parts are not cheap,ie rebuild kits.ingersol rand are good,kits are relatively cheap,and they last a long time.i have a ir 212 3/8 drive since 99,still functioning and not been touched.snap on guns are not cheap,very expensive to get parts for,and just dont have what it takes.blue point are not the best ones either,parts are expensive,and they dont last that long.mac guns are ingersol rand make with the mac logo on them.

ir 285 guns are great tire guns,cp797 is comparatable in torque,but is a heavy thing.when you do 8 11r22.5 tires with a cp gun,you know you did a few toooo many!!

He is lying. Do you think mechanics would spend $400 on their most used tool if it was junk? My local Snap-On dealer sold me a well used Blue Point (a snap-on line) that I used until I could afford a better Snap-On impact. The Snap-On impacts are well worth the money to someone that will use it everyday.

I think that is the model # of my IR 1/2. I like it alot. 600 pounds of torque reverse and forward with four different settings and a plastic case. Much lighter then the aluminum body impact guns. Which makes it nice for doing over the head work or holding it with one hand. The only problem I had was learning not to give it anything more then a very quick squeeze, otherwise you send the lugnut flying into outer space.

What I liked best was the position of the forward and reverse buttons because you can just hit them with your thumb, which makes rocking a fitting easy, and the **** for the forward torque settings you can easily turn it with oily fingers.

Mine has been used to remove many things including axles on class 8 tractors and lugnuts on the light duty Isuzu cab over trucks

I bought the cover for mine, to me it was worth the extra money. The IR is my favorite.

The chevy salesman says fords are junk too

good probability the Mac and Snap-on are built by the same people, IR.
