is it possible to put a 96 4.3 mustang motor or any other v8 in my 96 F150 that has a 4.9 inline 6? my motor just rolled over 200,000 miles and still runs strong, but when it dies, i wanna keep the truck and put a v8 in it. any suggestions or comments? thanks
The stang engine is a 4.6, but i do believe that radramrod is right and it would be a lot easier to swap in a 302 or 351. Whats good is that the 300 will last a while, and if you are in a no smog state, and milege isnt a concern, you can have a sickass engine waiting to be swapped in by the time the 'ol 300 dies. good luck man.
If your E4OD is in good condition, I'd probably keep it in there.
If you're wanting to swap in a 302 or 351W all you need is the complete EFI setup (I'm assuming speed density, mass air is a little bit trickier), the wiring harness for the EFI motor and the computer for the engine WITH the controls for your E40D, automatic and manual computers ARE different. Make sure you get the right one. The proper frame mounts, either 302 or 351W will work for either motor, and the proper flexplate, 302 is different than a 351W. The best thing to find is a complete donor vehicle. It'll have all the "little" parts you didn't know you needed. The proper radiator and exhaust setup will hopefully top it off. I may have forgot something, hopefully someone will chime in.
