Ford Explorer Ck Engine Light

Hello to all, this is a great web site, I have a 2001 Ford explorer that recently went into a fast idle after acceleration, after about 15 seconds of fast idle it resumes normal idle. The check engine light has been coming on but not staying on. Any suggestions on a fix?

If you dont want to buy a scanner & pull the codes yourself, take it to Autozone & they will do it for free. After the check engine light comes on, codes are stored for something like 30 or 40 restarts, so the light does'nt need to be on to get the codes.
Have you looked ar the throtle plate, is it operating smoothly & closng all the way?
