c4 or c6

I have a 77 f150 super cab with a 6 cylinder serial #x15bky01083 and I need a new tranny. I have someone willing to put it in for free if I get the right one. So far no one want to or is able to tell me if I have a c4 or a c6 without giving them money (plus towing it to whereever it needs to go). Is there a simple way for me to tell without having to ask my father in law (the guy who is going to put it in).

the c6 is one solid piece.the c4 has a bell that comes of.bolts on from the inside.you may have to look close to see it.

C4 will have 11 bolts holding the pan on. C6 will have 17 bolts.

The easiest way to tell is to count the pan bolts. The drain pain on the C6 is L shaped and has 17 bolts securing it to the transmission. The C4 drain pan is square and has 11 bolts securing it to the transmission. Good luck
