1997 psd what chip
Looking to get some more power from 97 f-350 powerstroke. Want to know what chip is the best and most reliable. Automatic transmission 4x4 157000 miles. and should I have anything done to the engine as far as tune , etc prior to the installation of this chip Thank you. P.S. I am sensitive to damaging the transmission seeing that I tow 8500 pounds on occasion

Before purchasing a chip,I would buy a bigger exhaust and a performance air intake.Dont foreget about guages also.If you buy the chip first you will be adding some serious heat and added trouble.Personally I would change out the downpipe on your truck,the 97 is restricted.All of my upgrades are from Gale Banks with the exception of my exhaust.Banks is a little pricy,but their product is all they say it is and fits like oem.Good luck.

Banks also has a product for your truck called Transcommand, it adjusts the shift points and line pressure so you dont damage the tranny.Unfortunately the tranny is the weak link on the truck not the engine.You should be safe with a low hp chip in regards to the tranny,you run into trouble when you hit the high setings.
