Hey all you Excursion owners!
Anyone out there add guages to their driver's side windshield post (A-post)? If so how hard is it to do? Do you have to do any drilling or does it mount where the grab handle was?
I would like to add a couple extra gauges (one being an ammeter since I will be running extra lights) and have seen these gauge pods in a few of the websites I have looked at.
Hey heavnbound, I installed the X-monitor package, so I was able to keep the grab handle. I looked at some of the 3-gauge pods and if I remember correctly, they use the same mounting holes as the grab handle. I don't think there is any (significant) drilling involved. Removing the existing a-pillar is interesting, as it sounds like all sorts of parts are breaking off....just take is slow and it will come out with some effort...
It's a digital gauge package that has pyro, tranny temp, and boost pressure on one readout. It also stores maximum values for all three, and you can set alarms to go off if you exceed a pre-determined level. It's actually pretty slick, I like it a alot. Between myself and darylhunter, we have posted quite a few threads on this subject. I have pictures of the gauge and different stages of installation in my gallery if you're interested.
If you search in the 6.0 forum on X-Monitor, pyro, egt, gauges, etc. you'll find lots of good info. There is also I believe some info in the forum stickies.
I'm quite happy with the X-Monitor and also have a photo on my Gallery. It is available with a CES module that will provide an audible alarm when your preset max values are reached. It will also keep the truck running when you shut it down if the EGT is too high.
You can find more at BD-Power .com. I'm not sure if you can buy them through Motorhaven or not. Deadfish88 just recently did his install and may have tried to use Motorhaven.
