Does anyone else have a wind noise after about 40 mph. My 04 super cab 4x4 gets a real loud outside wind noise from 40 mph and up it seems really loud on the highway even my wife noticed it....
Yes, matter of fact, my ford f150 XLT Supercrew has the same wind noise and will be going into the dealer this coming Friday hopfully to get fixed. It's coming from the front windshield and drives me nuts at 40mph plus!! I have a whisle that comes from that window as well at highway speeds past 55mph!! I love my truck and would not trade it in for anything in the world but the wind noise has got to go!!!! I hope the dealer can fix this truck on friday! Goodluck!
Ditto here. 04 supercab lariat. exact same noise you are hearing at exact same speed. already into dealer once. Changed the cowling in front of windshield. tech said he drove it and another on the lot and both had same noise so must be normal. BS!!! It is like driving a 30,000 dollar wind tunnel. going back on thursday for a ride along with him, my salesman, and the dealership owner if must be. Do you notice it goes away in the rain?? maybe it's just the sound of the rain over powering the wind noise, but it seems that I can't hear it in the rain. Noticed that the cowling in front of the driver has about a dozen of the square holes that are solid and hold water. wonder if that is the problem? let me know what you guys find out. I will post my findings. nice to know i'm not alone.
I dropped my '04 SuperCab off at the dealer last week for the same thing - wind noise at 40+ MPH. They apparently "resealed" the windshield and said it's taken care of. I'm picking it up tonight so I'll let you if it's any better.
I took mine in tonight. Took the service writer out for a drive and she couldn't believe the noise. She is going to send it to the glass company to have the window re-sealed as well. jjohn85 did that fix your's?? hope so. driving the rental taurus just isn't tripping my trigger! But on the good side IT doesn't have any wind noise!
My 04 XLT had some minor annoying wind noise from the front windshield (my Lariat has none to speak of). They reseated the windshield and it didn't change much at all. I really suspect all they did was use sealant around the windshield because the gasket had the exact characteristics as when I took it in. Not sure if this helps any, but that's my experience with it.
They got it taken care of. I went straight to the highway after picking it up and all is well. The dealer didn't go into specifics on what they did, other than saying they brought in a guy that does their glass work and he resealed it.
Needless to say, it's a huge improvement over the way it was. It sounds like a pretty easy fix for the dealer, so you boys should be in good shape.
I just talked to my service advisor. They resealed the windshield and she just drove it and it sounds exactly the same to her. jjohn, would it be possible for you to find out from your dealer exactly what they did? Or ask they to call my dealer if they wont tell you? My dealer is Art Hill Ford in Shererville IN. 219-738-5300 and service advisor is Leeann Hicks. thanks a bunch.
I just talked to the Service Manager (Len at Woody Sander Ford, Cincinnati, OH 513.541.5586). He said they had a glass company (sounds like a second party) come in and inject a sealant at the top of the windshield that resealed between the windshield and the exterior moulding. Apparently they can do this without taking the windshield out. I haven't gotten up close and looked at it yet so I don't know if it's anything you can see from the outside or not.
If your service manager wants to give him a call, I'm sure he'd help you out.
If it sounds like a whistle, don't blame the windshield just yet. Blame the fog lights. Yes, I said fog lights...or the area around them. This was my problem and I fixed it myself for $3 (round foam seal)...

"17309 2004 f150-Whistling noise from front of vehicle above 50mph some 2004f150 vehicles may exhibit a high pitched whistling noise from the front of the vehicle when traveling 50mph or higher. This noise may be caused by wind interference around the edges of the fog lamps. To service, confirm source of noise by covering the gap between the bumper and the fog lamps with tape. If noise is gone, repair by placing a strip of closed cell foam (found in the rotunda squeak and rattle kit 164-r4900) between the outer perimeter of the fog lamps and the inside edge of the bumper."
