i have a 96 ford bronco 5.0L and im interested in getting some better performance out of my engine. I am looking at some headers and cold air intakes. What brands do you recommend that are going to give me good results?
Nice looking Bronco! Don't know about that steering wheel (looks painful in a crash) but the rest is awsome.
I don't know about headers but K and N makes a kit called the Air Charger which replaces the stock air tubes/filter and provides an cold air shield. I'm not sure if this will work with your 96 because it has mass air. If that doesn't work you can probably fab something usinng the FIPK that K and N makes.
In addition if you want to bring out more cold air in you can upgrade to a different intake tube. There is a part you can get from the dealer that cost about 15 bucks and replaces the tube that goes to the front top of the engine bay to one that goes in that hole just to the side of the radiator. Here is a link to a thread that talks about that part including the part number.
I installed a K&N setup on my 94 with the 5.8. Set me back about $270 with shipping, but it got me from low 13's up to high 14's and occasionally 15+mpg (funny how just going up 1 or 2 mpg makes me jump for joy . There is also a noticable increase in the throttle response. My engine doesn't have the Mass Air, but if I remember in doing my research, I think they did make a unit for those with mass air
I got heddman hedders on mine, as well as KN FIPK and a flowmaster. The headers went on after the filter and they hurt my gas milage some but the horse is worth it. theres also bassani and edelbrock headers if you got the $$$.
very unusual interior for a bronco...I like it.
buy good headers. you get what you pay for. jba, edelbrock, bassini and gibson all make good products. as for the intake setup either buy just a drop in k&n or fab up your own fipk kit. you can do it for under 80 bucks and get the same results. do a search many have done this
