390 towing/performance
390 that was a 360 has the stock heads, edelbrock performer (not RPM) with a 600 cfm edelbrock carb and long tube headers and short 2 1/2" turbo muffler pipes and some type of factory "performance " cam
the rpm's stop building @5000, compression is about 9 1/2 to 1 question: are the edelbrock heads worth $1200 and if so do I need to have the "RPM" intake?
what cam would be best for the combination?
I will tow at times up to 7,000 lbs. but mostly empty and would like some increased performance.
thanks for any input...
The edelbrock heads are great for performance, but for towing you wont see much benefit. Additionally, the ports are bigger which may result in a slight drop in gas mileage. If you get the RPM heads its highly advisable to get the RPM intake to go with it.

1. Edel heads, worth it if you have it $$. nice flowing heads, complete with bigger valves.
2. It would be appropriate to match the Edel heads with the RPM intake. The Performer will not compliment those heads.
3. A cam similar to the Crane 343901 or 343941 would compliment those heads, intake and your exhaust, and the springs on the Edels. Consider some adjustable rockers and end stands. A cam in this range shouldn't sacrifce too much low end grut, but will give that 5000+ rpm oomph you're after.
