I have a 2000 Ranger XLT small box and cab. 2WD 2.5L 4 Cylinder with Front only ABS brakes.
ABS lights turns on then off when starting as normal. When on slick surfaces the wheels lock up with no pulsation of the pedel. Had the codes scanned and had no luck, all returned normal... I payed $40 for that?
I want them to work but don't want to spend a lot of money in finding out why they don't work.
Could it be from changing the brakes myself and not the rotors? Or could the sensors be dirty/broken?
Rock is right, either 4 wheel or rear wheel ABS, never only front. Based on the year/model you have RABS. Just forward of the mater cylinder is a valve, 5 or 6 lines = ABS, 2 or 3 is RABS, can't ever remember the exact number.
Well whichever, They don't work, but the light won't come on even though they lockup. Why would they only put rear ABS, that makes no sense. I must be mistaken but I swore that the fronts were ABS as I could steer.
Ford introduced rear ABS well over 10 years ago because, with a light rear end in the Ranger, many people were nailing the brakes and loosing control. One can only wonder how many lives have been saved and accidents avoided.
By chance, are you having this problem only after it's been sitting awhile and on a damp/rainy day?
