Deer season is here and I just realized that I can't install a standard gun rack in my rear window. Is there an adapter kit or a set of racks available that will mount a rack in the rear window channels? It is a 2000 extended cab. I don't want a permanent instalation. My kids have to ride in the back and they would be in the way. I would definately feel safer and worry less about damage to my rifle if it were not laying in the rear floor sliding around. Thanks.
I don't think that rack over the back glass is a good idea....it attracts theives like flies. Had a shotgun stolen once while eating breakfast, plus a broken window to fix. That being said, they make a rack that goes over the glass and screws into the sheetmetal over and under the back glass....make a good hat rack.

Best way in the world to have the truck broken into.
I have carried firearms in the vehicle, in a properly fitting (padded) case, from home to the range, to upper Ontario, Canada (for black bear), to Tennessee on a wild boar hunt, without any type of damage.
The gun rack in the back window is an invitation to theives.
I read an article in an 'outdoor' magazine that detailed how to build a gun rack/cabinet that slides into the back of the truck. I don't know why it couldn't be modified to fit behind the seats of the truck, out of sight of 'not-so-honest' individuals.
A little fiddling with the design, some padding, some soft carpeting.
Still, the padded case is still hard to beat.
