Windows XP Problems!!!!!
I have 2 computers loaded with Windows XP home.
My smaller computer is having a problem lately loading XP. It has been running fine with XP since new.
Today I was on it without a problem. Shut the computer down for dinner. When I went to fire it back up It keeps saying.....
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\system32\1_intl.nsl
Now I'm on my super computer asking you all.
WHAT DO I DO TO FIX THIS & START WINDOWS?
I spent 2 hours on the phone with tech support but they don't speak very good english & couldn't help out at all.
I tried firing it in safe mode, ms-dos mode, just about every mode I could think of & kept getting the same message.

I'm helping a friend with her XP.
She has 2 problems
1) Windowsroot>\system32\hal.dll
2) system32\ntoskrnl*****
Fortunately there is info about them.
Have you done a google search for your problem ?

Maybe some letters got mis-placed,as I can't find anything for you ?

Yeah, that is what it is saying.
Tech support is sending me a restore CD for XP. I might just burn them off this computer tomorrow though and see what happens. I tried to burn the restore CD's tonight, but they wouldn't burn to a CDR-W just to a CD-R.

I did a search on the .nsl extension on Filext.com and it is showing up as a Nokia cell phone software extension. (Probably for changing logos or ring tones?) If you don't have this sort of software installed on your computer, I would suspect a virus of some sort. Also, you can try choosing the "last good configuration" option when you're using safe mode start up in Win XP. I hope these two options work out for you. Sometimes it is just easier doing a complete reformat/re-install rather than wasting countless hours trying to diagnose "obscure" windows problems.

I just recently had the exact same problem with my laptop, it crapped out on my on a trip to Europe and I didn’t have the original disks that came from Dell with all the info and such that would have made things so much easier. My problem was that the computer was missing the WHOLE system32 file. It said the same thing as what your said. I forget exactly how I got around it but I had to use another copy of Windows XP but it was Office to reinstall windows, I was able to save my data but it was only really good for typing and playing one computer game Super Power lol. Anyway I just thought id relate my problem, it happened in the same manner as yours I was using it one moment and than the next day…nothing.

Boot from your Windows XP install disk and select "repair".

I also do not use system restore. That function makes a real mess out of a hard drive.

Got er fixed.
Buned some restore CD's off this computer.
Ended up having to wipe that other hard drive clean, reformat it, then reboot it with the restore CD's.
And just think......
I have no idea what I was doing.

Another couple of questions.
1) I heard today that a person can use XP on only ONE computer....Is this true ?
If it is , that means you have to buy seperate discs for your Laptop, & any ohter computer you use .
2) What needs to be on the hard drive (with 98se) when upgrading to XP Home or Pro?
3) If the computer is without an O/S, Does a person have to buy the Non-Upgrade disc?
