I had to fill at a semi-truck bay with the REALLY big nozzle. After it filled my tank in about 10 seconds, or mabye it was 15. I went to start and the fuel gauge was at zero, strange as it was reading half tank before I filled. So I drove home any way and nothing, even tried shutting off and restarting. Went out the next morning to start up and the tank was at half full, hum. Later that day I started up and the tank was finally reading full, about time 24 hours later. Could the fuel foamed up after shooting it in too fast causing an error in the gauge reading or should I have the gauge checked out at ford even though it seems to work fine now??
That has happened to me a couple times. I fill till the pump clicks off and then pump in about another five gallons. I always fill to the filler neck.
I think that sometimes depending on how level the truck is next to the pump you can get a bit more in there and the gauge float is actually going past full. The sender may not have a linear output past full and may drop of back towards the empty value. As you burn off fuel the reading comes back up.
I wouldn't worry about it. I've used the truck stop pumps a lot and had no problems.
My fuel gauge has done the same thing since new. No matter if I fill up with the big nozzle or not. The other problem I was having was that the guage woluld read empty but the tank would only take 20 gallons on fill up. I finally took the truck in and the dealer said it was the gauge cluster.
Yeah they replaced it under warranty. I don't know if it has worked because I just got the truck back last week and I haven't been able to drive the truck and fill it up yet.

I just had similar problem, mine was stuck on empty with the low fuel warning light on after filling up, service manager advises that there is a problem with the sending units, told me that Ford knows about it and does'nt have a solution to the problem yet other than replacing the sending unit with a new one. I have to take it in this week to have it replace and will have more detailed info as soon as I can. PSD you know anything about this?
