I put some new shoes on my 84 F150. I backed the selfadjuster off all the way but brakes are still way too tight on my drums, more one the drivers side then the passenger.I put the brakes back on just like they came off.I think it may be the emergenceybrake cable froze, but I'm not sure. Anyone else had this happen to them?
Are the shoes aftermarket shoes? If so I have found a great variance in lining thickness. I have returned a few sets that were too thick to let the drums slip on. The replacement set were not as thick.
I had the exact same problem on my '82 F-250, although it had heavy duty brakes unlike your F-150. One of the three emergency brake cables was frozen. I just replaced the back two rather than the front one since it was in pretty good shape.
I thik I would maybe have to agree with 5_labsownus. I had the same problem and I had to get the drums to slide over. It was very difficult but I got them on. I have left them like that but the linings were probably too thick. Oh well.

P.S. Your drums could also be out of round (warped) and need to be turned.
Most of the problem is probably in the parking brake cable or linkage. You could try putting the brakes together without the long bar that goes between the front and rear shoes to see if the drums will now go on.
At the time of replacement, were the wheel cylinders, slack adjuster, and spring kit also replaced? It would be a good idea, to make sure that everything is working correctly. Spring kits and slack adjusters are cheap insurance, as is a new set of wheel cylinders. Getting the drums turned is also a good idea, as it will make them round again, and possibly give you the clearance you need for the new shoes to mount properly.
I guess Im looking at pulling the whole thing apart again. I put the tires back on just to see what would happen. I didnt even make it out of the drive . While one tire now moves more freely the other bearly will turn . I just spin in the gravel.
If the parking brake was adjusted while the brake linings were almost worn out, the parking brake cable would possibly need to be backed off to allow for the extra thickness of the new shoes.
