I just bought a 2005 F250 XL 4x4 SC 8'Bed 6.0 Auto Trans
I have noticed a vibration when I accelerate from a dead stop.
It seems to be in the front end somewhere, because you can
see the steering wheel shake. It is only noticable before the
truck shifts into 2nd gear. I took it to the dealer and they
told me after driving mine and 3 or 4 other 05 trucks on the lot,
that they all do it. Does anybody out there have a similar
problem? Any help would be apreciated
ask them to put the tires on there road force machine, it is a balancing machine that can tell you if the tire is out of round and it will also tell if rim is bent. all dealers have them now I think, since they all sell tires. good luck
Could be a driveline related problem. Carrier bearing or???? Think something can/might need to be shimmed. Could also be an out of round tire. I had one but it only shook between 52 and 59 MPH. And this was on the rear.
I'd also test drive those other trucks and see if every symptom on those is the same as yours.
My 2005 has improved alot since I drove it off the lot. With 2,700 miles, ride is now smooth except for a distinct bounce in the seat at between 44 and 46. The dealer checked the alignment and runout and then rebalanced the tires. Did a real poor job so I took it to another place that had a new machine that put pressure on the tire - cut the weight the dealer put on by 2/3's. Also, I have the 18 inch wheels (KR) so have been blessed (?) with the Continental tires. Dealer also said that the tires had been causing some rough ride because of the tie down force during transport - the solution was to put some miles on. Well, I set the air pressure at 65 PSI vice 70 and this helped. Also, the truck does ride much better now except for the bounce I discussed above. I think it is in the drive shaft, probably carrier bearing from the posts I have read. I intend to put about 5 to 6,000 on before taking it back to the dealer as by then, if it is a tire/wheel issue, there should be some adnormal wear.
thanks for all the suggestions.
they give me a good place to start.
in missouri we have 4 tries with the dealer
then you can invoke the lemon law.
I hope it does'nt come to that 'cause I really
like the truck.
Let me get this straight. You have a vibration in your brand new truck , you took it to the dealer once, and your already thinking about using the lemon law. (SNIP) TimL

Postmaster,
The vibration seems to fade as the truck reaches the 1rst to 2nd
shift point. After that I don't feel it.As for the harsh shift, I will pay more attention to that in the morning , but right now I would say no.
What are you thinking?

You know what? For $37,000 It should be perfect!!!!
I've been registered on this web site for over a year and it still says new user
so I don't think I need A break.Maybe You Need One.
This is the 5th new ford truck I've owned and the first one I've had a
problem with. All of them driven for over ten years each.
My Dealer told me they all do it. Would you accept that? BS
If they can't fix it, I want a new truck. What if you bought a new house
and the drywall joints cracked,The builder says "They All Do That" (snip) TimL
Any thing else?

Shudder on Acceleration:
On trucks with single driveshafts, check the rear axle spacers. If the spacers are installed with the thin side (1 7/8") facing forward, they should be reversed (swapped left to right) so the wide side (2 1/4") faces forward. If the truck now only shudders with a load, swap out the spacers with 2" flat ones from an F250 long wheel base (two-piece driveshaft), P/N 2C3Z-5598-PA.
and on the older models with two piece driveshaft:
99-03 Super Duty F-Series Two-Piece Driveshaft Shudder:
Some trucks may exhibit a vibration on moderate to heavy acceleration from a stop. This is usually due to too high of an angle through the center u-joint. The correct angle through the u-joint should be 0.5-3.0 degrees (compare front shaft angle to rear shaft). Check the engineering number of the center bearing bracket to ensure it is the correct application, and replace if necessary. If the bracket is correct, the shudder may be corrected by shimming the bearing down from the bracket using up to three 1/4" shims, part number E0TZ-4A209-A and two grade eight bolts long enough to expose three threads above the nut when tightened to 46 ft/lbs. Loctite is recommended. Broadcast Message 0518, 1475; TSB 04-22-7.
postmaster,
thanks!, that might be my problem,
I will take it back to the dealer with this info in hand.
Are you a ford mechanic? or do you just stay up on this stuff?
or where did you find this tsb?
Nope, I am a computer geek and just happen to like mechanical things and how they are being integrated with computer technology. I acquired a Ford Service Manual DVD. I do some research. My truck is a big boy toy. Better than some other vices.
