i figured about $500 total for the superchips 1704, the dual gauge pod, the pyro gauge and boost gauge. where do i install the boost gauge, im guessing before the intake elbow on the intercooler pipe? or right from the turbo, on the intercooler pipe? thanks.
Man, what a can of worms that this question has opened up. Do your homework, check out all your options and buy from Motorhaven. Many people will have many opinions and if you really think about it, no one is right and no one is wrong. I'm just glad that we have so many choices!! At least until all those choices makes it hard to make a decision.....
another small question, this may seem stupid, but if i were to get an air intake system, would the reprogrammed ECM automatically sense the extra airflow and then compensate with extra fuel? i want to keep the stock ehaust because i think my truck will be in the shop more then this being the last time.. easier to just set it back to stock then to explain that the tuner didnt cause the "problem"...
No problem just install the air intake you bought form MotorHaven and the tuner and start engine...then drive...no other adjustments needed.....and smile.
How did you figure the price
i didnt buy an air intake or anything, (do you think i should for the price?) but i think i might get him to buy the tuner and ill get him the gauges and pod for x-mas.
i looked and i found a Brand new, never opened 1704. i thought it was a pretty good deal, considering all the others are $400. i know s/c sponsors you, but heres an opportunity to essentially get a free gauge(price difference) if i get the one off ebay. but i dont think i will, because the truck will be in the shop for over a month(probably) so i might just have to end up buying straight from superchips. dont worry.
MotorHaven, the online store of this site, will price match any legitimate offer. Call them at 770-736-7122. Additionally, note that Superchips does not officially support grey market items and they will ask for a copy of your invoice should you ever need to send it to them.
Both are very good and MH is running a special on them, (I like the 1704)
call them on monday and see what kind of deal you could get on all the items you want
could be a very good price.... just in time for
allright, i dont think it will happen but i do think i will get the 1704 or the diablo tuner. which is better in your alls opinions?
There is a ton of information on this site regarding your question. Read as much as you can, make your own informed decision, and, I believe, you will be happier with your ultimate choice.
For your application, I would strongly recommend the Superchips unit over the Diablo Predator.
I have both. The Predator's shifts are tuned more for sport-type usage rather than towing- it is a longer, harsher shift than the SCMT, and the EGT's are quite a bit higher. The SCMT shifts in tow performance mode are crisp and short, but the line pressure will not beat the brains out of the driveline and trailer.
Ask Ken about the SCMT units for the 450 and 550 that have just been released; I'm sure they will have them in stock soon.
so you say there is a special tuner for the 450 and 550 models, compared to the 350s and 250s?
whats the difference between the two?
There are subtle programming differences; I can't be exact, as I don't know precisely what it is.
Reports are that those who have loaded the F250/F350 programming into the 450's and 550's have reported issues with the air conditioning function and other oddities. It will work, however you risk running into compatibility issues later on down the road.
For varied loaded and unloaded driving- honestly, I would look into a fuel box such as the Edge Juice with Attitude monitor. This will give you the gauges, built- in with the box controller, and automatic EGT limiting. Motorhaven can get these for you too, if you choose to go that route.
As bad as I hate to admit this.... If it is a truck that your father relies on for work (and I would have never imagined me ever saying this) I would probably leave it alone... I can't believe I just said that....
I am probably one of the biggest performance advocates you will find on this forum, however, if the truck is to be relied on to make a living- it needs to start up, run, and be capable of doing its job consistenly every day. I do not believe that tuning would be detrimental to reliability, but I do not see it helping anything significantly either. IMO the money could be more well spent on things like a coolant filter or bypass oil filter to keep it running better, longer...
