Banging Sound When Shifting
I have 97 2wd automatic with 137000. When ever I'm cruising along...bout 1500 rpm (in overdrive) on the highway lets say...and I punch the gas or an uphill situation, when the tranny goes out of overdrive, shifts into a lower gear to increase the rpm's, there's this "Ker thunk!" sound. I can feel it (the "ker thunk") in the drivers seat and reproduce it every time . Sounds bad. Sounds like metal on metal banging. It only happens when shifting down out of over drive to a lower gear to get more rpm's. If I gradually from a stand still...increase speed to whatever speed, it's fine. It shifts fine throughout the gears wth out any probs or sounds. Only when it drops out of overdrive to lower gear for more rpm's is when I hear that sound. I checked the tranny fluid, it's fine. Has to be something other. Thoughts?
