Hi all, I am new to this site and have a few questions. I have a 86 F250 4X4 and need to find a new bed and tailgate the old one rusted out. can anyone tell me a good plce to find a new one in good shape and what I can expect to pay. I live on long Island NY. Thanks for any help.
i think you should be able to find some pull off's for under 500. i havn't checked in a couple years though. i would reccomend a bed from the 87-96. they don't rust as bad.
I have a bed from a 88 on it now It alittle rough. I am going to be doing body work and paint to the truck and want a bed with the same body lines around the wheel wells.
I recently bought an F350 and the bed floor was pretty rotted out, I went to NPD (National Parts Depot) today and bought a repair panel for it (96" x 27") for $93 inc tax. It covers half the floor (2 needed for full floor) or they do a reproduction 1 piece bed floor for $350 + tax.
I've been looking around the internet for a couple of weeks for a replacement bed, the average price I found was $800 - $1000 for a decent used bed, hence the repair panel.
I have an 87 bed on my 82. I have looked at bes up to 95 and they will fit! The only change is the number of bed bolts. They used 6 on 87 and up where my bed had 8.
If you want one that isn't rusted out contact junk yards in Texas to look. They don't use salt and don't rust out like they do in the northernparts of the US, several years ago I found a stepside bed for my 84 with a wood floor for $900 (including shipping) that had no rust holes, some surface rust but nothing major at all.
Called my local junkyard, and was quoted 450 for a used bed in decent condition. Just remember, if you like woodworking, build a wooden flatbed like i'm doing. I figure the most i've spent on it is about 150 for all the wood, maybe another 30 for all the bolts/hardware. It looks decent enough. I made the top out of 2x10's pressure treated, and used an assortment of 4x4's /2x4's for the cross beams. So far i have my cross beams bolted to the frame, and i have the sides bolted to the cross beams, so now all i need to do is figure out how i'm going to do my gas doors, and then bolt the 2x10's down. It actually looks pretty sweet. At least, i can picture my rusty old truck being gloss black, with stacks, wooden bed all bolted down with all my marker lights hooked up. It will be one scary looking truck when its all done.
