I have a chance to purchase a 1982 F100 short bed with a 306/V-6. I have never heard of a 306 and was wondering if anybody knows anything about this? It is a Georgia truck with 52,000 original miles and they are asking $3,000. Is that a good price or too high? Any feed-back would be greatly appreciated.

Reason: changing title description
3 grand for and 82 ????? Must be in mighty fine condition. Around here you would'nt get that for a 4x4 with goodies. An 82 is just a little too old for a decent return-on investment and not old enough for classic pricing (yet). Unless its squeeky clean I'd try to talk them down.
According to my 1982 Ford Light Truck Shop Manual the following gas engines were available:
Vin Code Displacement Cylinders Fuel
3 3.8L 232-2V 6 GAS
D 4.2L 255-2V 8 GAS
E 4.9L 300-1V 6 GAS
9 4.9L 300-1V 6 GAS for LP Conversion
F 5.0L 302-2V 8 GAS
W 5.8L 351W-2V 8 GAS
Z 6.6L 400-2V 8 GAS
L 7.5L 460-4V 8 GAS
I do not see a 306 engine listed, however the 3.8L 232-2V was a V-6.
Check the VIN number of the truck!
1FT B F25 W 5 B L A 00001 Sample VIN number
...............^.................... "W" =engine code or the 8th position of VIN
$3,000 US Dollars is a lot of greenback, but if in your opinion, it may be worth not having to do any body/interior work, change brakes, tires, etc... and only to wash and drive it, then it is worth the money. Most people here are rebuilding basket cases or beaters if for the only reason, they still run good.
Hope this helps

Even if it runs good and looks good that is a bit much.
It would have to have good motor and tranny and much more to pay that kind of cash for that old of a truck.
