ok i'm looking at buying a sub and amp combo at best buy tomarrow and i'm also picking up my new 2005 xlt f150 i was wondering can i hook up my amp to that stock cd player? if i can how can it be done?
Yes, get an amp that has speaker level inputs and splice into the speaker wires, or get a line level converter and splice it into the speaker wires and then run RCA's from that to the amp. I prefer a good car audio shop to best buy or curcuit city.

What kind of powered sub are you looking at? I just went through a search and ended up with an Infinity Basslink, which has a 10" sub, a 10" passive radiator, and a 200 watt amp, plus lots of adjustments for crossover frequency, output level, gain, etc, plus phase correction switch and a remote level control, which I mounted on the front of my console. It'll hook up to RCA's, sub-outs, or speaker line, with seperate inputs for each. I am VERY pleased with this unit, which is mounted behind the driver's seat in my 97 F150 extended cab. I gave up any footroom for a passenger in that smaller seat, so I just removed the bottom cushion as well. $179.00 on eBay, plus $40.00 shipping (high shipping, but the unit does weight 30 pounds). It punches hard and very clean. (Crutchfield is $299.00, but free shipping).
first off, dont buy anything from best buy. Go to a local dealer or buy online. Best buy is way over priced and most of what they sell is lower end. Second, get an aftermarket head unit, using speaker line level as input will hinder your sound quality. go with a box from super crew sound. as for subs, depends on what you want. I just installed 2 RE 8's (yes, 8"ers") powered by a soundstream 360.2 (180x2 @ 2 ohms) and it sounds incredible. any questions, email me.
