I know this subject has been brought up before, but I want a set of Aluminum roller rocker's from Harland Sharp. I want the 1.83 ratio, so I can gain a little lift in the process. I drew a blank on Jeg's and Motorhaven. Just the info on where to get 'em, and if they are actually for the mustang 3.8's.
Ahhh, got some money burning a hole in your pocket, eh?
I believe I remember seeing where the rockers are the same as those for the 3.8, but I can't say for sure.
Or was it the same roller rockers as the 5.0? Seems like that might have been it....
I did several searches but never could find anything. I believe user "V6Mustang" would know. I'll PM or e-mail him and ask him to check your thread. He always seemed like a nice guy who would be willing to help.
See ya!
Well , I thought I did any way. I found a sight for 3.8 racing parts, and they want 350.00. If that's the price range, I'll stick with what I got. I found the part number for the Harland Sharp 1.8 bolt on rocker's. The pn is s4018. I'll call a distributor sometime this weekend and get a price quote. I'll let ya know what I find out.
Try RPM Mustangs for the roller rockers. He has a 4.2 F-150 section. But rockers for the 4.2 are the same as they are for the 3.8. Same goes for camshafts too, incase you want to get a bumpstick that will give your idle a little lope. You can get adjustable rockers or non-adjustable. Since you have a stock cam you'd be better off with non-adjustables. At $244 a set they cost about $100 less than the adjustables. Then you can decide between a 1.73:1 ratio or a 1.8:1. Stock your truck has 1.73's (non-roller) so the 1.8's will give you a "little" bit more lift, which never hurts
Thomas,
If you swap out the rockers, PLEASE let us know how it goes.
Which rockers (roller or not? and 1.73 or 1.8?)
I am considering buying a Taurus as a daliy driver for work.
I'd then be a bit more free to play with the truck since it wouldn't be my main form of transportation.
You got it. It will be roller tip, 1.8 ratio to gain a little more lift. The bump in ratio will gain me about .02 lift, and hopefully a little power. The reduced friction of the roller tip is supposed to be worth something also. I meant to ask V6 mustang if he had experienced any problems with valve cover clearance.
I think I need to shed some light on this subject...not to be a pain or anything.
What are you needing RR's for? They 'might' give you 2 hp's or so...maybe. Also, they really won't do anything unless you really 'pep up' your engine...it's kinda like getting a bigger throttle body without doing anything else to make the bigger throttle body worth having ya know? You stock RR's can't handle near as much power as the 1.8's can, and that's kinda what you buy them for. If you have $300 to spend, there are so many more beneficial things you couldl buy other than RR's.
In short, if you aren't pushing 210+ REAR WHEEL horsepower, I wouldn't even consider getting them because your stockers (unless they are just damaged) will do just as well. I hope this makes sense.
You are correct to a point. Roller's are proven to quieten valve train noise.Let's face it, our engines don't rate very high in the "smoothness" department. The higher ratio, will net you about .02 lift, and some small amount of power. The decreased friction will make it seem a little smoother, and ,best of all, the fact that I know they are under there will make me feel better about the world. When you consider that, it's a bargain.
Two different "race" v6 sites say the factory header's are good for 300hp.I don't want steeper gears, because I need the mileage.I already have an exhaust system, and a k&n. The dual electric fan setup I want is over $400. I could install an intake and gain a couple of ponies, along with the great sucking sound that goes with it,and probably will. I also don't want a chip, there have been too many posts about problems related to chips, of all brands, and I don't want to invite trouble. The roller's are one of the last 2 or three thing's I can do without opening up the engine. They just happen to be the next thing I want to do. That in short, is why I want the roller's,for the long version, I will have a book out next spring detailing modern man, and his never ending need to"tinker" with something that works perfectly well. There will be 5 volumes.
Good idea, or maybe I'll just burn 'em all to cd-rom, or even dvd.Yeah, then I may get a deal like a "made for t.v. movie" or something. Oops, sorry 'bout that, I slipped into my dream world again, yu know, the one where we all won't have to work 'til we die. Hey if your gonna dream, dream big.
