I found a part on the ground after driving my truck through the back yard. It is a flat disk 5" in diameter on one side has a triangluar support plate with round "feet" in the corners, and a threaded center and what looks like a pressure plate surface with place for a shaft in the center on the other side.
I will try to find a place to post pix.
I looked around the underside of my truck, but could not find anyplace it might have come from. Any idea what it is??
hey jenna
i don't think that part came off you're truck it doesn't sound like anything i've seen before. but if you're worried maybe get the truck up on a hoist and take a peak.
Right on BillC! So glad it wasn't anything REAL important!
Ok, so next question: I will never find the nut that held this on. Can I use anything I can find that fits, or is there more to the way it is attached than that?
Bolt, nut, whatever. Don't get picky on me. I think I do pretty darn good for a female. I may not get all the terms right, but I am not afraid to crawl under the hood and get the job done.
if a\c is not a big concern to you than i wouldn't bother, a new compressor clutch and or compressor can get pretty expensive, take the belt off and forget about it.
oh yeah good for you for getting you're paws dirty!

hey dan,
a\c compressors can get pretty expensive [300 and up], if you can get away with just a clutch it's probably less than half the price. keep in mind that if the system has been
down for awhile it may need a recharge witch brings on a whole new adventure and more money because if it's empty they'll have to find out why, fix it than recharge it.
if it's an r12 system they may have to retrofit to r134 and so on and so on and so on!
get a guesstimate before letting anyone touch it.
i hope i didn't discourage you but those are the facts.
se y'a later

I had to have the A/C repaired on my 93 last summer. So I sunk the money and had it converted. It takes a new pump. Something about the seals wouldn't handle the new coolent. Heck the new pump cost less then having the old one repaired. And in the South you MUST have A/C. Total bill was about $800 or so. Had to have the new hoses, lines and such replaced.
we have snow 5 months of the year around here so a/c isn't a real priority for me, the system in my 97 hasn't worked in 2 years maybe i'll fix it for next summer.
