Using the 50 centersection in the 44 beams gains strength in ring and pinion and spider gears. Locally we have some mud races that require drivers to go around a big ag tire then come back to starting line. In the classes that allow it, its common to have no brakes on the rear axle and seperate the front brakes with individual master cylinders or shut off valves or some other method so that the driver locks up one front wheel while staying on the gas. This makes the truck turn unbelievably fast in the mud, but its very hard on front axle components. There are two trucks that I know of that use dana 50 centersections because the 44 wouldnt hold up to that. They tell me that the 50 fits right in using the 44 axles.
