Just bought 2005 F-350 DRW 6.0 Powerstroke off the lot and after checking all the options I saw there was no BLOCK HEATER, Boy what a DUMB mistake by the Michigan dealer who ordered the Powerstroke with no BLOCK HEATER. OH I FORGOT IT NEVER GET"S COLD IN MI. The question is how hard is it to install a block heater, and are there any aftermarket heaters better than the one I might purchase from FORD'S?
Have you checked the engine compartment carefully for the plug? I bought a P/S back in 97, in Houston,TX. and it came with a block heater. I don't recall seeing it listed on the accessories sheet. I think they all come with one. Good luck.
Your truck has the block heater installed. Just for some stupid reason, starting with the 2005 model year ford only installs the power cord as standard in certain states. And Michigan is not one of them. Oh yea I live in Michigan also and no it never get cold here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And further you will have to buy the cord from the dealer. For some crazy price of $65.00 that some on FTE has paid. And it gets better that does'nt inculde installing it.
So what you are saying is the 6.0 comes with the block heater already installed and all I have to do is order the cord? Also you make it sound like the cord maybe hard to install.
Is there a web site that would have a blow up of the 6.0 to show all the wiring and all other add ons'. I quess what I'm asking for is a web site shop manuel.

I bought my 04 in South Mississippi. I am taking into the mountains of Arkansas over Dec and Jan. I had it in the shop today so the mechanic could get the # off the ICP sensor, so I asked about the block heater. I was going to buy the cable if needed. He track the cable to the front of the truck, tucked in to the inside of the passenger side tow hook. Mine gets to stay warm. Maybe Ford mixed up the MI. and MS. state abreviations???
Picked up block heater from Local Dealer. It is going to be ONE big NIGHTMARE to install properly. Found hook up on block but that is the easy part, trying to fish the plug all the way to front will be the problem.
I hope FORD is happy that they saved $65.00 on a $50,000.00 F-350. By not making it a standard feature on a truck sold to a MI. dealer.
Looks like this will be a job for my neighbor who just happen's to be a FORD TECH. He just LOVES fixing FORD'S after sale add on's.
h2oplus3 - It is my understanding that prior to '05 all PSD's had both the heater and plug installed as standard. That is why you found it. Those of us with '05 and are not in one of the "lucky states" don't have it standard.
I purchased the cord ($65) and had the dealership install it as part of my 1st service. It took the diesel tech an hour to do both the service and the cord. The tech had to admit that he needed to look at one of the other diesel's on the lot to completely figure out how the cord was routed.
It's my understanding that it isn't the hardest, just takes some patience to get it routed.
It is on the passenger side, up above the starter. It is in one of the freeze plug holes.
Yours is a 04 so it has the heater and the cord. The cord is diffucult to find, it is taped up behind passenger side tow hook. Get a flashlight and look up in there. It is a regular three prong plug with a cover on it.
