Going to try again today to install heater plug. That was my idea to go to a dealer and look for the routing of cord. Checked all the sites provided by Tim and none had the routing of cord.
I hope the board doesn't think that I'm a habitual complainer about FORD'S. I've bought a new Ford every year for the pass 25 and my Father was in Ford Marketing for 37 years. I just get tired of all the dumb things that they do to try and save money at the customer's expense.
Well after a inspection of another 6.0 with a heater I DID IT. Not like FORD'S would like it, but close enough for a lease vehicle. I just hope when I plug it in the whole truck doesn't BLOW UP!!
Miller,
I had the same issue. I poste dthe installation process in red in my thread. The title of the thread is "Block Heater Application" I believe it has a yellow caution triangle as the symbol. It really WAS pretty easy it took me about an hour or so total.
I have an 05 e-350 Bought in louisiana and I probably will not need the block heater, but it came with the cord. Go figure ?
If the dealer ordered the truck with the block heater, it costs you $35 and the cord is there when you drive it away. You apparently got lucky and found a dealer who had the sense to order with one. I bought the cord to attach to the block heater, and when you add not only the cost for the cord, but also 1 hour labor, ouch. I started to put it in myself, as I was kinda ****ed off that Ford quit putting them in standard. A burn to my hand from the exhaust and a lot of that black undercoating all over my hands and arms, and I gladly paid the 1 hour labor. Across the street to a pub for 2 beers and I returned to pick up my rig.
My rig in AZ has one. Doubt I'll ever use it. I'm still looking hoping to find it. This should save time and money on the idlng to warm it up though. How long to they take to heat up? When started is it already at operating temp?
Was 'crusin the block heater thread since I had not been able to locate my plug-in (I finally found it-if the Ford guys ever sponsor an Easter egg hunt, I'm staying home!)
Saw on your response you had traded up from a 2003 to 2005. Not asking for $numbers but wondered how you were treated by your dealer if you traded in the 2003? Or did you sell it yourself? Thinking along the same lines - know there are a lot of variables but your experience would be helpful.
Yours is a 04 so it has the heater and the cord. The cord is diffucult to find, it is taped up behind passenger side tow hook.
Is the heater cord in the same place on the 03? I was poking around to see if I could see signs of a cord the other day, but I didn't crawl around underneath...
