Good low price solution.
I probably should have done that. I like my Magnaflow system, but the pipe isn't much bigger than the stock, at 3.5 inches.
And your sure right about that monster stock muffler. Haven't weighed it yet, but must be near 40 lbs.

I had the exact dilemma and went with a Flowmaster 40 series delta flow muffler and couldn't be happier. Dual exhaust sound without the cost and still keeping the stock look. I highly recommend this route.
Cool...Thanks for the advice. I have been looking to upgrade the sound of my SCrew 5.4 4X4 for some time without breaking the bank. Sounds like you found the perfect solution.
Yeah..I want to watch and see if anything happens with mileage as that is the positioning tactic I will use to get this one passed the wife. She drove the truck shortly yesterday and didn't notice so far so I know its not too loud.
When it fired up in the garage it sounded tough from the outside so I know that there is enough sound deadening materials to drown out a lot of stuff in that cab.
if i went the route of just adding a flowmaster to my stock pipes what size inlet and outlet do i need and also center or offset. i have an 04 xlt scab 5.4. thanks for the help
you can measure the exhaust at the rear of your truck to get the diameter of inlet and outlet i think the flow that wast put on mine is offset allmost positive
You should be careful about measuring the diameter of the exhaust at the end of the tail pipe since it seems that Ford inflates the tip a little. I would measure it at the inlet of the muffler. If you have a 4.6 it should be 2.5 inches. I just went with the center inlet and outlet and it fits fine.
Help me out here man. I went to Midas today and priced a good high flow muffler at $63. Installation and other pipe parts came out to total an additional $240. How did you get $85 installed?
Carnivore, Midas is a franchise. It's possible to get a good deal at one, but the odds are against you. Try a local muffler,/ speed shop. I paid 275 for a Magnaflow cat back system, muffler, warranty and all. The muffler alone would have been 100 bucks, installed.
Other shops in my area are cheaper, but I like these guys.

Truckasaurus did not say Midas, he mentioned Meineke. But he said "local shop"
