Ok I went to the midas near my house and the price is $100 cheaper. They are going to do it for $225. I know that is more than you guys paid, but for a lifetime guarantee on stainless pipes, ill suck it up. I am going with the 77 series muffler. It is longer than the 55 and generally a bit quieter he said. the guy there appeared to be a real pro and said that the 33 would be for high performance sports cars that had real speed and power. The 55 is for trucks and big V8's and has a bit of a crackly sound (like when you rev real hard and let go of the gas, you can hear some pops. The 77 is the deepest growl of the bunch and is least prine to resonance. It is a little more expensive, but If I don't like it, he will swap it for a 55.

The ability to swap if you need it is worth a lot.

That is very cool that you can swap out the 77 for a 55 if you want. I can honestly say that I really don't see how anyone could find the 55 too loud. I have not heard any back pressure pop yet out of my 55 series and its been on for over a week now. $225 is a bit spendy but maybe they are running new stainless from the cats back? I have all the factory plumbing still under mine and that save a lot of ca$h.

In any event, let us know how you like it. I have a feeling this mod might be more appealing to a lot of us low budget folks.

Got 2 questions, i am probably gonna be putting in a K&N air filter today or tomarrow. just going with the replacement to save some cash for my muffler change(flowmaster) and superchips after the holidays. my question is will i notice anything right off the bat by just changing filters(sound, mpg, or power). dont really want to go with whole intake change for the reasons stated above. it will only run me $40 for the filter. Also, when i do the muffler, my two optons i am thinking about is either just swapping mufflers and keeping stock pipes, like some of you have done, or running dual out the side in front of passenger tire. Didn't get any price quotes yet but have two local places that do this work, if there isn't a huge difference in price will there again be a huge difference(sound, mpg, and power).
Need some advice and personal experiences.

NO, with the filter you will not notice anything. at higher RPM's it allows more air in which is a good thing, but low end RPM's are generally not impacted. The enginer just can't use that much air.

Greg,Also, I had a air intake kit for my old ram from K&N and it was crap. Although there was some power increase (and noise in engine), the plastic kits that K&N sold broke, twice....

Greg, in my opinion your filter will do little alone by itself BUT it will complement the other items you are speaking of and allow more improvement out of those items. I too am considering just replacing the stock paper filter and eventually buying the $100 Airaid tube that is less restrictive than stock (it does not use the conical filter). For example, your exhaust work won't be of much value if you are restricted up front so doing the filter first makes sense. In fact, I removed the intake tube altogether and just have it wide open to the filter for me. Its definitily louder.

Honestly, for the cost of running a new cat back or getting custom exhaust done I would recommend the single side exit cat back regardless if you use the factory plumbing and weld up a new muffler or buy a kit. It won't make much HP difference as compared with duals either. You can buy a cheap duals set up however from Jegs for $150 or spend up to $500 or $600 on a Borla set up. The results will not vary greatly in my opinion. If budget is your concern, do the filter, weld up a muffler and save your cash for the programmer or some other goodies. Thats just my opinion though.

Good Luck!

My truck is ready. I asked how it sounds and the guy said "its not loud but it has a good sound to it". I got the impression that I would not be happy with it. DAMN! Im going at lunch to get it and see how it is. I should have started with the 55. Truckasaurus, im sorry I didn't listen to you man.

Went to pick it up at lunch. It is afriggin awesome!!! When i first fired it up it sounded good - very low rumble that I wanted. I was concerned that it was not loud enough. However, as I drove it around at lunch I realized that outside is louder than in the cab. The f150 has a lot of sound dampening built into it, so I took it to the carwash so I could hear what it sounded like when the other guys started it up. wow. AWesome. not obnoxious but PERFECT. I prolly could live with a little louder but the wife would notice - definitely. Noticed a little quicker response off the line but have not noticed any difference in torque. At highway speeds I can barely hear the rumble as the wind noise blocks most of it out. With the radio on, I can't hear it.

Sounds like you got what you wanted, Carnivore. My Magnaflow cat back is just a little too loud around town. I like, but my wife thinks it's annoying.

If I was doing it over, K&N filter, and just low-flow muffler would be the way on these trucks.

Best,

Good luck. I think you'll be pleased and worst case, you can drop the big coinage down the road after some other mods are done and the rest of the factory exhaust is wearing out.
