What's up with the different color of the insulator on the temp. sending switch. I went to Advance Auto to get a temp. switch for my 89BII and the guy asks me what color the insulator is. He said they listed 3 different colors for this truck, green, black or white. Does anyone know which one it is? Auto Zone offers only a black one.
Calling it a switch might be confusing them. Tell them you need a temp gauge sending unit. Why are you wanting to replace it? Temp gauge bouncing around?
The temp. guage has stopped working. The truck ran hot and cracked the heads. I replaced the heads and now the temp. guage does not work. I grounded the lead and the guage went to hot so I am replacing the temp. sender. The box says "temp. sending switch" so that is why I called it a switch. But back to my question, there are 3 sending units listed for my 89 BII. One has a green insulator, one has a black insulator and one has a white insulator. I can't tell for sure what is on my truck. The guy at Advance Auto could not tell me what the difference between these 3 sending units are. I thought you guys might know.
Try calling a Ford dealer parts department & see if they know what this nonsense is about. I took a look at the sender on my 87 2.9 & the only color I see on it is a black rubber seal. I've never had this problem when buying a temp sender for my 2.9 or 3.0.
Well I tried the black temp.sender and the green sender and neither one worked with my guage so now I have a red one that is the replacement for the white one that in on my truck now. Wow this is confusing!!!!!
do yourself a favor and put some manual gauges on your truck. the factory ones are screwy anyways. my oil presure gauge sometimes read normal and sometimes low, i replaced the sending unit and still the same thing. i put a maual temp, oil and amp gauge in and now i know its right. and the oil presure is constant. in the past the temp gauge read normal and the old motor cracked a head due to overheating. the stock gauges are trash. you can pick up a tripple gauge set for $20 and up
