I was going to drop off some used oil last night at nine pm and saw that the showroom lights were still on at my local Ford dealer. I quickly figured out why... a Ford 500, two new Mustangs, and a Midnight Blue Ford GT.
Must...buy...Powerball...tickets!!!

Reason: left out important stuff
Let me tell you, that GT is visual Viagra for a Ford/sports car enthusiast when you see one in person. I'll be dreaming of manipulating 550 Ford ponies with a Ricardo six speed... I just wanna know what it sounds like. :-)
It's surprising. The interior looked uncomfortable, but it isn't- plenty of room, and the seats fit nicely. The door cutouts help getting in and out of the car- I can't tell you how many times I've whacked my head on the roof panel of a Corvette getting in. We started it up with the rear engine cover up, and it's pretty loud- but button it up and get underway, and the exhaust is the only thing you really notice Even the stereo can't drown that out (do you need one in that car anyway?). It's really easy to drive slowly and sanely, something else I wasn't expecting.
Disclaimer here- it was raining, so we just took it to the end of town and back (it's a small town)- and stopped off at Starbucks. I've been promised another drive when the weather and roads clear up, and I'm looking forward to it (will give full report). Our dealer is a genuine gearhead, and plans on actually driving his new toy. It won't be for sale, but will share garage space with his '65 GT350 (which he also drives).

wow, someone that will actually drive one. I just hope that these cars do something besides sit in climate controlled storage. 90% of the 00 R's were never used what they were intended for, quite a shame if you ask me. The 95 R was about the same percentage. I would love to be able to take one to starbucks, but I would cream myself to be able to take it through the gears. The car has a lot of potential, ford really did their homework, and did an awesome job on building the car from what I've seen.
The wierd part is, I've been able to take a GT for a spin, but have yet to even be able to sit in an '05 Mustang. Ford hit the cover off of the ball on that one.
Over at the Chevy store, we're eagerly awaiting the arrival of the first Cobalt. Sigh. Just doesn't seem fair, ya know?

Yep I am hoping to someday in my life get lucky enough just to see one.
I don't think they are even importing them into Canada, so my hopes are not too high.
Saw my first '05 Mustang on Saturday tho. Sat in it, heard it run (Mmmmm) but since it was the only one at the dealership and people were lining up all day just to see it, I never got to take it for a spin
They really did hit the cover off the ball with that one.

It wasn't always that way. When I got in the biz, the new downsized Caprice sold again the Queen-Mary sized (and aethestically challenged) LTD. We sold Chevelles against LTD II's, Monte Carlo's against Elites, Camaros against Mustang II's. Picking Chevy over Ford, back then, was as close to a no-brainer as it gets (at least in passenger cars). Things change. Now we all have to worry about the Japanese.
All that being said, I appreciate a good product no matter who makes it. The new 'Vette is a fine car- but the Ford GT is in a class of its own.

The era you speak of is a turd-stain on everyones past. Except for toyota and the other importers ect. It goes in cycles, and ford seemed to fall behind for a slight bit when the LT1 came out, and then again when the LS1 came out, but since the 03-04 cobra, and the new GT, and the debute of the powerstroke, ford has really stepped up IMHO. I feel that ford had a better pickup selection from 1974-now. Ford really outdid themselves on the new GT, when the only thing that can compare with it is the enzo, and that is how much now??
