OK we just picked up a year long project in Rifle CO and it is going to get cold I would think. So how do I add a block heater, how much would it be and where would I get one? Last do you think I really need to do this?
I live in Wisconsin and was thinking about adding one to my V10 Ex as well. My wife has one on her van and really likes it. Ford has a block heater that should fit Superduties and Excursions. I was going to double check this part # with my local dealership to make sure it would fit but haven't gotten around to it yet. Ford part# F81Z6D008AA. I have looked it up on a few Ford parts places online and found it for around $35 plus shipping. I haven't seen the instructions, but from the picture I saw it looks like it replaces one of the frost plugs in the engine block. So bascially you would have to drain the coolant from the truck, pull the frost plug and install this on the frost plug hole. Shouldn't be too hard as long as there is access to the frost plug.
I had a 2001 V10 F-250 I orderd mine from the factory with a block heater got to looking one day at it the only way I could see to acess it was to lift the engine up about 10 inches might want to look into one of the block heaters that goes in the lower radiator hose just my opinionhope this helps
