Module problems usually arise during a hot day or when the engine is warmed up. Heat is the killer of modules.
Rough running when cold could be coming from a too rich mixture or a too lean mixture. I assume you have a carb? The choke could be sticking causing a rich mixture, or not working at all which could cause a lean mixture.
It is also helpful if the original aircleaner is used, along with a functioning air valve in the snorkel which leads to the exhaust manifold.
Yeah, I've got the choke adjusted and the flap in the snorkle works. I did everything possible carb wise, even a new intake gasket to rule out vacuum leaks. Overhauled the carb. I'm just running into dead ends here. I was thinking it could be something ignition wise, maybe even bad plugs. The cap wires and rotor are new, spark plugs are clean and gapped. It just idles at 400 rpm in between the engine being cold and operating temperature. It pulls strong and hard when cold and at operating temp, idles like crap in between. The only symptom is that it just idles like crap in that in-between period. One other thing, it puffs out black smoke when I start it, but i don't know how to lean it out.
Boy it sure sounds like carb icing. Does it do it worse on damp days? Just to double check, hold your hand around the tube coming up from the exhaust manifold, just to make sure it's pulling warm air up into the aircleaner.
