ashtray bulb keeps blowing
When I put a new bulb in the ashtray lamp socket it usually burns out almost immediately. Yet some have lasted a whole day before blowing. I tried different types of bulbs with no luck. It's really hard to get the little socket out to put a meter on it; and even if I do get a meter on it, what should I look for?
Any suggestions on curing this annoying little problem?

Check to make sure you are replacing it with the correct bulb. You can also check for proper voltage at the socket. Sorry I don't know what it is supposed to be for a '98 but others with books may be able to tell you the voltage and bulb rating.
