MSD Igntion box

Will I gain any benefit in using a MSD igntion box on my truck? I know you can control the rev limit through the box right? Other than hooking one up do you have to modify anything to use the ignition box? What is the model number of the specific ignition box to get also?

You won't gain a whole lot - maybe a little smoothness. If you want one with a built in rev limiter, you'll have to get a 6AL - it's the cheapest one with a rev limiter.

No. They are not hard to install. I just put an MSD 6 series ingition (even though i have a supercharger, i'm not putting out enough boost to need boost retard)and a blaster coil (problably didn't need it though).

The only thing you have to replace are the plug wires. Your plug wires have to protect the signal integrity (insulated, kind of like co-axial wire for your TV antanea). It also makes sense to replace the plugs, though.

Regarding the plugs, i have heard conflicting reports and honestly don't know which is the way to go. The shop i bought the MSD ignition from said you want to close down the gap a little more than stock, or else you can burn up the cylinder. MSD says to open it up, so i just kept it stock. If you have the patience, you can play around and see what is best, it can just be a pain changing plugs on the 302. If you do find a good gap setting, let me know. One thing for sure, though, you want to go down one heat range on the plugs.

The most difficult thing was finding a good secure spot under the hood to put the MSD ignition. I ended up rotating the stock ignition, and moving it away from its mounting screws and putting the MSD ignition next to it right on the driver's side fender wall. A right angle drill would have really helped.

I also replaced the cap and rotor. My engine was remarkably smoother and quieter. Don't know if it was the tune-up, or the iginition. My gas mileage did not increase really at all.

It has been 2 months since i put it in, and now i kind of feel like my engine is starting to run the way it was before the MSD ignition. Maybe some other problem i haven't worked out yet.

There really isn't much more to installing it than doing a tune-up and wiring one new piece of hardware.
