Completely stosck I got 3-7 then I disconnected the exaust line from the right exaust manafold to the intake and It lost a slight low end power due to loss of flow but I thint that exaust is dead oxygen and I think that live oxygen is better. I get 8-9 around town and about 10 cruising now.
Huh? You disconnected what?
Maybe you should find out what is wrong with your running project before you start another project. If you are getting less then 15 MPG you have something seriously wrong. What year is your B2?
the exaust hose from the right exaust manafold to the intake box. Emissions equiptment, I barely passed smog test which is why I am looking into an older vechile so I will be smog exempt.
can't kill a 2.9
The ranger i'm building into a dragster my mom used to drive it. My dad bought her a 2500 Suburban and gave me the ranger to tinker on about 4 years back. had 400,000 miles on it 3 dead cylinders blown head gasket warped heads and yet is still started every time.
I pulled it so i can put my built 351W and a T5 in it. Damn good little truck.
It still got over 10mpg when my parents retired it
Oh gonna rebuild the 2.9 (its at a friends house. he helped me pull it down to the crank. and gonna put it in a custom rail one day)
With all due respect to the suggestions you're getting, if you have a $1500 engine budget, you may wish to pull that 4 down and see if it's fixable. You may be able to fix it on the cheap, and make a driver out of this thing whilst you evaluate the ride, handling, creature comforts (if any) and overall appeal of this vehicle. It won't cost much if anything to pull that motor apart. You will find 345's on the web for $1800 rebuilt.
Anyway, swapping an engine can be a tall order and costs can spiral out of control. Any six or small block V8 will provide more power than you can use under most street conditions. Big block weight and torque will provide you with a steady diet of broken parts. Your rig came with the 4--I'm sure you will find some parts quite dainty compared to V8 models.
My first 4X4 was a 1964 Scout w/4 Cyl. Pulled the 4 and put in a rebuily 283 Chev. 4.88 gears and overdrive. It was plenty quick. I have had many 4 bys since then and it was the best off road vehichle of all. If I were younger I would do another one. With the overdrive it got good mileage (cannot remember exactly). The overdrive splits were nice in the Mountains. I used this in Colorado and went over almost every off road pass in the state plus Denver to Durango the hard way. Upgrade the brakes, easier to do now than in 1965. Good luck.

If you can read this thank a teacher. If you can read this in English, thank a soldier.

Thanks alot guys for your time and what you think is welcome , you spoke of the soldiers, God bless them for their love and courage for America.
Does torque affect your acceleration, example; when passing cars or is it all Horsepower?
THe ford 250 six makes alot of horsepower with aussie heads is is capible of up to 240 lbs of torque, 190lbs stock with pour flow heads. Oh this scout has dana 44 rear and dana 30 front.
The only thing I like about the V8 deghine is that you can cram more cubes in a short space but I prefer the inline deghine beccause it will be easier for me to work on. My freinds have inline 4s and Thomas loves his '83 toyota 5 speed 4x4 and he can hold 50 up a grade in 3rd gear 17-27 mpg cruising and pushing up mountians, and Micah has trouble his '86 Mustang 4 cylinder because it has the 3 speed auto that winds out slow in 1st gear and 3000 rpm in 3rd at 65mph and 10 mpg all around.
If I am going to run a NP435 granny then I can spin 33" tires with less...
