Had this truck just for a little time, I think it has a C6 trans, 3gear.
Today it started to slip in reverse, so I was wondering if the only cure was overhaul or if there is a adjustment I can do to make it work properly again?
Am I right if I say that reverse and first gear has the same clutch?
First gear is not slipping.
In my doorpost the trans is marked as TRANS K, AXLE C5.
Please give comments.

what year is it. if it is a 3 speed automtic its the c6 if it has over drive it is the e40d. i dont no if you would need an overhaul or not or it might be cheaper to just get a reman one.
Sorry about missing info, it is a 1989, 7,3 xlt lariat 4wd.
There is no overdrive, but a friend told me there could be a brakeband to adjust on this one for the reverse gear. He was not a 100 %, he said thar he could be mistaking on the C4 trans.
So I had just a little hope, stuff like this is expensive over here (Norway)

i had a c6 in mine and ripped it out and put a zf 5 in the extra gears are great and id never go back. i also dont no much about the mechanics of these trannies excpet that they make great paper weights. although the oil running out tends to ruin the paperwork.
I have a C-6 with similar issues been holding off on repairing it. Theres an overhaul video available for this transmission don't know if its available via the website or not. If I find the link I'll post it back on this thread.
check your fluid my buddy has one in a farm truck that leaks and we know its low when reverse is slipping . That is the first gear to slip for some reason. Also see if the fluid is burnt looking and smelling
Reverse uses these clutches. Reverse/High and Reverse/Low. This is Manual low. Do you have all 3 speeds fwd? If so the low/reverse clutch is bad. It is the first clutch pack put in the trans so a complete o/h is likely in order. D low uses a overrun clutch. You probably would not notice anything different in Drive first. Check fluid level and shift alignment. Don
If i remember correctly(been a long time since i had a C6)there is a band adjustment that can be done from the side of the trans.Something like loosening a lock nut and adjusting a screw.Like i said its been a good 15 years since i had one,i have a great memory, its just short, lol.

I've been thinking about doing the exact thing to mine. I hate not having the extra gears. The C6 makes the truck feel sick. How difficult was it to swap the C6 fro the 5-speed? Did you just find a donor truck and swap everything out?
The band adjustment on a C6 is for second gear. Must be done correctly, with a torque wrench if one expects a long service life. The C6 is a very tough piece, but like any other clutch type planetary transmission must not be over heated. If the fluid gets too hot, bad things are sure to follow. Don
Don,you rang my bell with that reply, now i remember, its the intermediate band that can be adjusted.loosen the adjusting screw 1&1/2 turns, hold the adjusting screw and tighten the locknut to 35-40 ft lbs(not sure on that torque but it does ring another bell, lol)Like i said before i have a good memory, its just short.
