1995 E150 Tuscany Conversion van MPG...

The van has a 5.8L V8 w/E4OD auto. After my recent nightmare with sparkplug/wires replacement I took a 4K mile trip from MO to LA to FL back to MO. Also did a fluid and filter change on engine and transmission. I got 17.3 mpg on the way to Louisiana with just our suitcases onboard. After clearing out a 5x8 storage locker in Florida and loading the van up I got 15.8 in Florida and 15.3 in the Tennessee mountains returning. Is this about right for MPG? Also I had the OD "OFF" light blink once in awhile intermittantly and the cruise control would kick off. Is this a fluid level issue? Thanks.

I would say your 17+ empty mileage is excellent. I can just squeeze out 17 in my 5 liter in ideal conditions. Flat interstate, no wind and keeping the speed to about 70 mph. 15+ fully loaded in Tennessee ain't bad either. I know that stretch of road (I-24 from Chattanooga to Nashville is pretty much up and down all the way and then add in the 10 mile climb at Mt. Eagle mountain). The problem I have is keeping the speed down. I always find myself cruising at 80+ where I can only get in the 15-16 range at best.

See my other post on the O/D light flashing. You will have to have the codes read to see what the problem with the transmission is.

I agree... I wish I got 17+mpg out of my 5.0 EFI when empty... 15-16 is about the norm for me... less if loaded... and that's with me driving like a grandma (and I don't mean the Pasadena type...)
