Hi, i have a 86 F250 with a 302 EFI, and I'm curious about putting a MSD in to help low end power. I know it fires more at low rpms so i figured that could help. Which one should i look into for this truck?
I have an 86 F150 with the EFI 302. I put in an MSD coil, blaster I think. I got the 6A ignition box and the TFI coil plug to make installing the box easy. It all went together nice. I mounted the box where the duraspark box went on earlier trucks.
I've got the MSD 6A box and a MSD Coil on my 86 5.0 EFI / f-150 4x4. Did not make a significant difference in the low-end torque. Did help smooth out the idle a bit and mileage went up a little bit. Starts a little easier as well.
I don't think you will see a significant torque increase unless you start changing internals (i.e. Cam, crank, heads, pistons...)
I used the MSD Blaster Coil PN 8227 for my 1986 EFI with a TFI ignition was the first part of the upgrade see it at http://www.msdignition.com/
Little bit of difference as mentioned above. Better starting was the thing I noticed the most and reduced throttle lag
Gas mileage Hmmmmm. I wish
Hey Big302, how much do you want for that msd box and will it work on my 302 EFI 92 F-150 pickup? What would I need to use to get the msd to work on my truck???
I put two so far on my 85 F-350 460. The first one lasted just over 15 months and the second may be going. I does help with starting and smoothness and it is better than those original aluminum spark control boxes but I might think Jacobs next time. The other issue I still have not gotten the 6a and adapter to work right with my oem tach.

Have you talked to MSD tech about this problem? They will usually help you out quite a bit and do have a tech board just like this one. If you have your old unit I suggest you send it in to get looked at it might only cost a few bucks to get it fixed.
The MSD box I used on my 86 (stand alone system) works real nice. I had spark problem so I tested the MSD box (6a) that sucker puts out some nasty spark, enough to leave my left side numb for 10 minutes.
