Hello. My '97 powestroke will not start. It cut out a few days ago on my way home. So I had it towed to service station where the camps was replaced, although the scanner that was used could not read any codes. The tach moves when the engine cranks and there is about 55 psi fuel preassure from the pump when the attempt to start is made. Batteries are new as well as the starter motor ( both less than a year old ).Has anyone any ideas on where to look next? Thanks. Mike.
Thank you stroker. I checked fuse#22 under the hood (22 maxi) and it appears to be good. How do I check the hpop resevour and what is the significance of this check? And what should I be looking for during this check. I think I know the location of the resevour,in front of the fuel oil filter housing with some sort of sensor on the left side? Thanks. Mike
Thought that my batteries were good too... less than two years old. one was really low on amp draw and my 97 would crank great but not start. You probably tried the jumper cables already... if not it would be a quick easy thing to do. Just my 2 cents...
check the rest of your fuses, check your battery connections and grounds. Are you getting any smoke when its cranking?? if no the injectors probably arnt firing. hpop res has a plug in the top of it its at the front of the engine valley. should be within a inch of the top, if not pour oil into it untill its full put the cap back in and see if it will start then

On edit....
Mike, I think that you can check the oil level by pulling the allen head screw on the right side of the hpop. I'm not a mechanic...so my best guess is that the hpop delivers oil to the injectors at a higher pressure to operate them and the oil lubricates the pump drive gears...

thanks barebackjake, No smoke it is a no fuel condition for sure . put the start booster on it no change. Will check that hpop resin the am and what if it is low?
I looked at the level in the hpop res today and it was almost full. .So what next. All fuses are good, tach moves up while cranking, where should I look next. mike
But the hpop res is full. If the hpop has failed , would the res be full? How would I go about isolating the hpop and determining if in fact it has failed? Thanks Mike.
Full reservoir or not, the best way to check an HPOP is to get a high pressure guage and connect it up. Crank the engine over and see what kind of HPOP pressures are there. From what I have been able to gather here on the board you need a MINIMUM of 500 psi just to get the engine to fire and idle. WOT pressures are in the neighborhood of 2300 psi. The absolute highest pressure before the safety relief opens is 3800.
you say it cut out, you meen it died suddenly, if that is the case I am with Viperrtblck I think it is an electronic issue, possibly IDM as if it was a UVC or injector issue you would probably see it still running, just rough
