Looking for a pyrometer and some that I have found have another option to purchase which is called a "thermocouple". Is this something that needs to be purchased also? What exactly is it? Is there anywhere I can go online and purchase ONE KIT that includes everything I need to install?
Nuther thought. I was checking out Moterhaven's exhaust system upgrades. One that they advertise "The Full Boar Exhaust", in it's spec sheet, lists it as having a pyrometer plug already installed. This sounds to me like they are saying that the pyrometer thermocouple screws in downstream of the turbo. Which is correct downstream or "before the turbo" as vancouverpower stated in an earler post.
Thanks for the link vancouverpower. I agree it's important to monitor the highest temps. I guess now it's time to look for a spot to install it upstream of the turbo.

you have to drill and tap it yourself, the best place is in the drivers side exhaust manifold right before it turns up to the y pipe, its pretty flat and easy to get to. if you do a search on the web for "pyrometer install" you should find a few good sets of instructions, just make sure to be carefull of the metal shavings
Summit racing has some nice Auto Meter pyro gauges. They come with a thermocouple. This is what I went with. Mounted the thermocouple pre turbo in the drivers side exhaust manifold about 1 1/2 inches before the up pipe connection. It was very easy to drill and tap. If you would like some pics let me know and I will email some to you.
I recenlty bought Auto Meter Ultra Light Pro Comp gauges, boost, pyro, and tranny. The pyro gauge was $120, the boost and tranny gauges were $54 each and the Auto Meter pillar pod was $60.
