The windows in my 79 F150 are fogging something fierce. Stupid me just gutted the a/c components under the hood during a timing chain replacement last weekend. Anyway, it's been rainy and humid here all week. Even with the defrost cranking out hot air, and plenty of it, the glass seems to still fog. I just got the truck and am not familiar with how well this should work. All the windows are staying very foggy. I am suspecting a problem with the heater core, but not quite sure. Any feedback on the usual performance of these defrosts would help me out. If I wipe the window with a rag, it seems to stay away until next cold start. I'm sure the a/c would have helped this, removing moisture inside the cab. But, that is not an option without some costly parts replacement. This is a plow truck, so I need to be able to see well in all directions. Ideas?
I'd bet the heater core is leaking. Do you smell coolant inside the cab? Feel the steam on the windows...if it feels slippery, and smells(on your fingers) kind of sweet-ish, your core is gone. For a temporary fix you can try some Bar's leak seal or some alumi-seal(my preference is the latter). It won't work as a for-ever fix, and the heater cores are generally not that expensive, nor are they to hard to change out.
I agree with rr4e, but another thing to check is where the heater box seals to the firewall. You said you just tore out the air conditioner and you have had a lot of rain lately. If you have a hole or gap by the box from an A/C component you removed, moisture could be getting into the heater box from under the hood causing the windows to fog similar to a heater core leak.

I agree with the others. I just replaced mine on my 79 f-250, mine did exactly what yours is doing except that I could smeel the coolant. Cost me forty bucks at kragens and a few hours in the driveway. When I got to the heater core I found a little bit of coolant on the outside of the heater core. Once I fixed it cleaned my window good and havnt had a problem yet.
Thanks for the replies. I should rephrase my prior post... I removed the compressor and lines from the a/c... not the case itself. I wish I could, but it retains my heater core. I would need to find a heater box from a non a/c vehicle to do that. Anyway, I yanked it out and the heater core was definately leaking. Not too bad a job, other than the lower case stud hitting the inner fender. Thanks all!!
I have similiar problem on my 98 F150 with fogging windows. No sign of antifreeze leaks or smellings. Applied Rain-x interior on inside windows, seems to help with the fogging problem as for now. Wondering if it's a temp fix or not, thank goodness as I'm 1000 miles away for the holiday trip.
