Being born and raised in Massachusetts, I'm a Yankee.
Sure, I live in Ohio now and drive an old pickup on the weekends, but I'm still an uptight, self-righteous Yankee.

I'm proud to be A Merkin!
If you don't understand that, you're probably a redneck.
Seriously though folks, why would you want to pigeon-hole yourselves and claim affiliation to one of only two catagories? I belong to neither one but there's nothing more pathetic than someone pretending to be a redneck. Too many people are insecure about others' acceptance of them so they try desperately to fit in with the largest group at the expense of their own independent thinking. Be yourself, we'll like you better for it.

Naw, you're too young to even get that one!

But I get your point. Um, Folks - the delineation is not usually "Redneck or Yankee" but "Confederate or Yankee" or even "Rebel or Yankee" - though all of us, according to our European cousins, are "Yankees" and in fact, even Yankees are Rebels - as in the American Revolution they rebelled against the British.

<O

But, yes, I'm a Southern Gentleman. This means I acknowledge other people, tip my hat to ladies and shake other gentlemen’s hands on meeting them. I say hello to people on the street and try to help strangers when I see they are in need. I try not to impose my ideas on others but will NOT allow others to impose their views on me. And if you have a problem with that, yes, we can "meet at dawn for coffee and pistols." <O

But Redneck? Shouldn't that be "The R Word"?

I believe it was Jeff Foxworhty that said being a redneck means "a glorious absence of sophistication" and that it can be all the time or some of the time. Well, I guess you would call me a redneck. I am not defining myself or claiming to belong to a certain group of people, but I call myself a redneck just because I can!!

I'd be considered a Yankee Redneck. I get called Redneck by all of my non-redneck friends, but being from the north, I'm Yankee, so I guess that's how it all works out.

After driving the '77 around, and living in rural VA, some people have told me to get in touch with my inner redneck, not those exact words, but something similar.

Redneck seems to be a state of mind. While Yankee seems to refer more to location.

I have a good grasp of the English language, and I'll keep it that way until I die.

Alvie.

i believe rednecks come from all over the country, not specific to were you live like a yank or a rebel. redneck are known for working hard in the sun all day and doin lots of outdoor stuff like 4wheelin, huntin, and fishin.

i work on rooftops all day long and love my job. i also own 4 vehicals two are running i hunt fish and go 4wheelin (love the mud) my bronco whitch is my daily driver has no hard top or hard doors its fun to drive around without doors or a top every one call me a redneck so i guess i am one

4weelinbroncos - I don't care WHERE you live, YOU, son, ARE a Redneck!

Seriously, redneck DOES refer to rural southerners. Blue collar = Red Neck is how it's become. (or what do all those "if you have to rotate the tires on your house" type Jeff Foxworthy jokes mean?) I think it was so some of us "city type" southerners could feel superior to SOMEONE.

However, I still maintain that the deliniation should not be Yankee or Redneck, as just because you are from the south does not make you a redneck, whereas just because you are from the nort DOES make you a Yankee.

Now, can anyone tell me what you call a Yankee who comes down south and stays?

Well, figure it out for yourself. We live three miles down a dirt road in the Deep Fork Basin of the Cimmeron River Valley in Creek County, Okla. Raise cattle, and drive a semi hauling rock & sand.
