1992 ranger XLT, 2.3 manual, 180k miles.
Check engine light comes on every once in a while and truck will buck and surge when accelerating. Going WOT will make it stop. Sometimes I can turn truck off and start it up again, sometimes 2-3 times and that acceleration problem will quit and runs like it should so I don't think it is the TPS. Finally got a code reader and at KOEO I'm getting 3 digit error codes in the 5xx and 6xx range that said something about lockup solenoid and automatic trans. faults but I have a 5 speed! Also, I cannot get any KOER codes. Nothing at all. I erased the codes and still get those 5xx and 6xx codes and still no KOER codes. I did have to replace the exhaust manifold since it was cracked and a mechanic said running rich would do that. I have new O2 sensor installed as well. Any ideas before I give up. I'm beginning to think the engine computer is hosed.
Going WOT will cause it to go into open loop which is why the problem clears up, also at start up it will stay in open loop for a few minutes. In open loop the computer uses set values inplace of sensor values. If you post the codes I will see if I can make any sense out of them. A failed KOEO may cause no codes in the KOER since you should repair the KOEO codes first. A rich condition can be caused by leaking fuel pressure regulator, bad O2, bad O2 wires, exhaust leaks.

Initially I was getting 172,341,522,566,and 629. The O2 sensor was replaced which got rid of the 172 code. The others still remain. Remember I have a 5 speed truck and not an automatic. I did the test with in nuetral with the e-brake on.
The 341 is for information, a octane jumper is installed, the 522 is the clutch pedal position sensor and I see what you mean about the 566 & 629. My only guess on those is that the codes might be caused by the 522.
