Exaust Help

I got a 1997 F-350 7.3 Powerstroke 4x4 and i have the stock exhaust with both a stock cat and a stock muffler and its all 3.5 in tubing if i cut out the muffler and the cat and install a 3 in down pipe and then use the exsisting exaust thats there and piece in 3.5 in pipe over where the muffler and cat would have been would my ETG's still be a problem if running a chip? other wise in short what is the differece of ETG's be between a 3 in downpipe and a 3.5 in exhaust or a 3 in downpipe and a 4 in exhaust?

Removing your cat and muffler, will lower your EGTs. Will it be safe with your chip, well that depends. How hot is your chip, how do you drive, other mods, ect. Just get yourself a pyrometer, that way you will know when you need to back off the throttle.
