front end thumping when turning right

I have noticed a front end thumping on my truck. I noticed it on and off a few days ago, but I thought it was somthing in my tool box that was shifting. I went to an empty parking lot and started turning in both directions and it seems to happen on right hand turns (not full locking turn). Can't make it do it all the time, but it's defintely there. Any ideas what this might be? I had a full front end inspection at the dealer at 35k (now have 37k) and everything checked out ok. I did take off all the wheels off a few weeks ago for cleaning and didn't notice anything unusual. Everthing is working fine, steering is tight and don't have any problems over bumps or rough roads. It's my day off tomorrow, so I guess I'll have something to do now

Any ideas?

Are you sure it's in the front end?
I've seen limited slip clutches chatter and it felt like the front.

No, I'm not positive it's from the front. I don't have a LS diff, so that's not it. I'm going to reposition everything in my toolbox and pack it down tight, just to make sure its not that. Maybe it's just my imagination........

Double check your lug nuts.
Especially since you said you took the wheels off recently.
Won't take but a few minutes, but could save you a lot.

It not 4X4, no mud flaps, and did double check the lug nuts. The sound is getting more noticeble now, but it appears to be brake related not right turns as I first thought. Upon braking from about 23-30 MPH I get a thumping from the front (maybe from the tranny tunnel area). The sound is present when I release the brake, when I press the brake it goes away. It also does it when I take off from a stop, but not as much. It's really driving me nuts. The truck feels fine, no vibrations or braking problems. What could this be? I thought it might be my front passenger side tire, because I had it repaired for a flat and it needed a pretty big patch. But this would cause a thumping with every turn of the tire. Well I'm off from work on Wedn. so I guess I'll get it checked out then. As luck would have it, my factory warranty just ran out.

I don't think so, it's not a constant problem. It just pops up now and then.

Ok, I found the problem and I feel really STUPID!!

It was loose lug nuts on my front passenger wheel. I was sure I had double checked the lug nuts becaue I caught myself leaving one of the rear wheels loose. At least I stopped driving it since Monday, but I couldn't be more mad at myself for such a dumb mistake
Well, at least the wheel didn't fly off while doing 80 on the hiway.
Good call banjopicker66, I should of checked and rechecked the lugnuts first.

Hi Triton

That happens to everyone at least once. I would sugest inspecting the wheels to see if the stud holes are still round and not ovaled due to driving witht he lugs a little loose. My Ford dealer left the drivers wheel loose and had to replace the wheel. Might be a good idea to check if you haven't yet.

Sorry if I am stating the obvious but you never know

John

I checked it, just some steel dust from the studs but nothing major. I'm looking into getting some new wheels anyway.
