Cleaned the Maf today, just becasue I have 115000 miles on this truck, so first after securing the proper tamper proof torx tip bit (#20), I removed the MAF. The picture did not come out, but the sensor was shiny clean. this was a supprise since I use a K&N oiled air filter. It really did not need to be cleaned but since I had it out, I shot it with some electrical contact cleaner and re-installled.
Next I set out to clean the throttle body, man it was dirty!
Here it is after I cleaned it... note pointer to DPFE sensor for thoes who are wondering where that is located.
After cleaning.. it was a little hard to start, I assume to burn off the residual TB cleaner, but there is a noticable difference in throttle response, and the engine idles very smooth now.
I was going to do the Throttle Cable mod but I found that it was not necessary after my helper (My father) put the gas pedal to the floor, and the butterfly valve on the TB was wide open.
Just an update... after driving last night, the engine is running great! cleaning the TB did produce some noticable results. Most notibly, the engine starts very quickly, and smoothly. It fires up after the starter has been engaged for less than a second!
I had to wipe it a little with a rag, as well as open the butterfly and clean where the valve seats. I was a little supprised at how dirty it was, and how clean the MAF was, the MAF looked brand new... anways running great.
Thanks, I thought the pics might be good so the others could see what a real dirty TB looks like.
