I have an 04, F250, CC, Lariat, Fx4, short bed. The manual says it has a 29 gallon fuel tank. I routinely put between 32 and 33 gallons in if I fill it all the way to the filler neck. I run it until the "lie-o-meter" says about 25 miles to empty. The gauge is pretty much on "E." The first 27 gallons or so go in very quickly (2 minutes at the truck stop). The next 5-6 gallons go in very slowly. Foam rises up in the filler neck and then recedes slowly. It takes about 8-10 minutes to put in the last 5-6 gallons. I have to run the nozzle at a trickle to keep it filling without the foam rising up.
I assume there is some reason the tank is behaving like this. Does Ford not want me to put that much "extra" diesel in the tank. Am I hurting anything by filling all the way to the top? Anyone else noticed this. I use different stations and I always put about 32.5 gallons in at fillup.
Is there anyway to modify the tank so I can fill it up quicker? Any comments would be appreciated.
Why don't you save yourself that extra ten minutes and go with 5 gallons less? seems like a pain in the neck to me...
oh nevermind... you have the smaller tank, i bet filling her up that often is also a pain. Have you considered a second tank?
I also think there is a mod for the vent tube or something that allows that extra diesel to go in easier. Might try a search on here and see what you can find.
there's a mod you can do look for something called the harpoon mod and all it is saying is to drop the tank and cut the vent that goes up to the filler neck and put it back together. I did mine and I can fill it up like a gas now and not have to worry about it.
