Question '05 Brake Controller

Anybody know if Ford is going to have their Brake Controller (available on the '05 Super Duty) be configured as a seperate Brake Controller that can be installed on '04 and earlier models F-250/F-350.

Thanks!

Tom

retrofit brake controller

When I went to purchase a brake controller, I asked the dealership about the 2005 brake controller and the upfitter switches being used in a 2004. The parts manager told me that the brake controller is integrated into the trucks electrical and would not be able to be used in the 2004 or other models. Also looking at my 2004 pocket where the brake controller is installed on the 2005, it wouldn't work because the pocket is part of the dash, you would have to carve it up to fit properly, so I bought the Tekonsha Prodigy, very nice unit looks as good as it works.

Did you get the wiring cable that they have to Plug into the truck? Was that really easy to wire up?

I'm curious, since I do have the tow package I may just get the thing. It seems to make sence to have it just in case.

You can buy the prodigy harness for about $8.00 that will plug directly into a harness that is under the dash. No splicing, just plug and play!

Looked into this on my first '05, it did not have the controller. IF (and that is a big if) it could be done it would run you in the couple of thousand range and I was told it is not possible for prior years.

If you don't want to go out and buy an 05 w/ tow command, then the prodigy is a pretty good alternative. I bought the 05 SD, PSD w/ tow command and love it. If you want the next best thing then take a look at www.rvwholesalers.com You can prolly get a pretty good deal on the prodigy there.

I have the Voyager in my 04 ....

I was looking at an 05 F350 w/o a controller and as told by the service manager that the controller was a factory only installed option ....

a pig tail was in my glove box to connect my controller to the Ford wiring harness under the dash ...

I think the company that makes Prodigy IS the same company that makes the Ford controller so quality would be comparalbe. The difference is the way it is actuated using the trucks computer and antilock system. Like I said before, not as good but prolly the next best thing.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, been working around the clock. When I ordered my Prodigy (brakecontroller.com) it came with the pigtail with Ford connection and Prodigy connection on each end. I also got free shipping for around $124. Good deal I found on the Internet.
